Aadhaar address, mobile number, supporting documents, demographic details and biometrics do not all use the same update method. UIDAI currently provides different services through the myAadhaar portal, the official Aadhaar app and authorised Aadhaar Enrolment or Update Centres.
Older guidance often described mobile-number updates as centre-only. UIDAI’s current 2026 guidance says the official Aadhaar app can support some changes to an existing registered mobile number. First-time mobile registration, loss of access to the old registered number, biometric updates and some demographic corrections still require an authorised centre.
Citizen Affairs is not part of UIDAI or any Aadhaar centre. Services, fees, accepted documents and interfaces can change. Check the current UIDAI screen and instructions before submitting or paying.
1. Use only official Aadhaar channels
- myAadhaar portal: myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
- UIDAI information website: uidai.gov.in
- obtain the official Aadhaar app link from UIDAI’s website or verified app-store listing;
- open centre-location or appointment links only from UIDAI’s official pages.
Avoid search advertisements, forwarded links, clone websites, unknown APK files and personal links from agents. Never disclose OTPs, app PINs, passwords, Face Authentication access or payment credentials.
2. Services available through myAadhaar
UIDAI’s current online guidance includes services such as:
- address update;
- Proof of Identity and Proof of Address document update;
- update-request status tracking;
- e-Aadhaar download and other authenticated services.
A registered mobile number linked to Aadhaar is required for OTP-based login and submission.
General address-update steps
- Sign in to myAadhaar with the Aadhaar number and registered-mobile OTP.
- Select the address-update service.
- Choose a valid Proof of Address from the current accepted-document list.
- Enter the address exactly as supported by the document.
- Check the English and local-language preview carefully.
- Upload a clear colour scan or image.
- Pay only through the official flow if the portal displays a current fee.
- Download the invoice or acknowledgement and save the SRN.
Submission does not guarantee approval. UIDAI processes the request after verification and validation.
3. POI and POA document update
UIDAI advises Aadhaar holders to keep identity and address documents current, including updating supporting documents at least once in ten years. A document update is different from requesting a change to the demographic value itself: its purpose is to keep current POI and POA records associated with Aadhaar.
According to UIDAI’s current FAQ:
- document submission through myAadhaar is free until 14 June 2027;
- document update at an Aadhaar centre currently costs ₹75;
- the deadline and fee can change, so check the current notice on the submission date.
Before uploading, verify that:
- the document appears in UIDAI’s current accepted list;
- the holder’s name matches;
- the entered address agrees with the POA document;
- the image is clear, coloured and readable;
- the document is not expired, altered or incomplete.
4. Address update through the official Aadhaar app
UIDAI’s current Aadhaar app guidance describes an address-update flow that may involve app registration, document upload, address preview, Face Authentication and the prescribed charge. The OTP flow can vary with the registered mobile and SIM situation.
Read every label on the current app screen rather than relying on an old video. Use only the official app and do not allow another person to control Face Authentication or account access.
5. Existing mobile-number update through the app
For supported cases, the official Aadhaar app can allow a user to change an existing registered mobile number. The process may require access checks, OTP, Face Authentication and payment of the displayed charge.
An authorised centre is still required when:
- a mobile number is being registered for the first time;
- the holder cannot access the old registered mobile number;
- the app does not offer the required flow;
- UIDAI directs the user to an enrolment or update centre.
Do not pay an agent who claims to bypass biometric, OTP or identity checks.
6. Updates that generally require a centre
Authorised Aadhaar centres remain necessary for services such as:
- first-time mobile registration or recovery where the old number is unavailable;
- biometric updates;
- many name, date-of-birth, gender or other demographic corrections, depending on current UIDAI rules;
- requests that cannot be completed online or through the app.
Use UIDAI’s official centre locator or appointment system. Check the current service charge displayed by UIDAI or at the authorised centre and obtain a receipt.
7. Track the request with the SRN or acknowledgement
After an online submission, keep the Service Request Number, invoice and acknowledgement. Use the official myAadhaar status facility to track progress.
Possible outcomes include processing, approval or rejection. If rejected, read the reason carefully and correct the document or data before submitting again. Do not edit official documents to force a match.
For a centre-based update, preserve the acknowledgement slip and Update Request Number or other identifier shown on it.
8. Protect Aadhaar information
- Never share OTPs, UPI PINs, app PINs or passwords.
- Do not install an APK sent through a message.
- Do not permit screen sharing or remote-access control during an Aadhaar transaction.
- Mask sensitive numbers before sharing screenshots publicly.
- Use a private device where possible and log out after finishing.
- Delete downloaded documents from a cyber-café or shared device.
A professional-looking page, a UIDAI logo or an https padlock alone does not prove authenticity.
Final checklist
Before submitting an update, confirm that you have:
- selected the correct official channel for the type of update;
- checked the current accepted-document list;
- entered information exactly as supported by the documents;
- reviewed the local-language preview;
- paid only through the authorised route;
- saved the SRN, invoice or centre acknowledgement;
- checked the request status through UIDAI’s official service.
Use the current UIDAI instructions as the final authority because services, fees and supported update methods can change.
